This is a 33 ft long wall sculpture, made of 468 pieces, inspired by the color, movement, texture, and energy of ocean waves, and resides across 3 walls in the pool room lounge of an extraordinary villa in the seaside town of eastern Saudi Arabia called Al-Khobar (a suburb of Dammam). This artwork was commissioned by Dubai/Lebanon-based Afkar Architects and was conceived, designed, constructed, and installed by Erika Givens Art over a span of 7 months. The piece was inspired by the fluid motion of the ocean’s waves and tides as well as the patterns and layers of its bubbles and froth. The composition is made up of small clay foam bowls varying in size (no larger than 7” or smaller than 1”) whose cavities are filled with poured resin in blue and green marine hues accented with liquid gold and metallic dust.
