This piece was commissioned as a wall sculpture for the lobby of the new legal offices at Barnes & Thornburg LLP in Washington DC. Their new office space is on the top floor of the ultra-contemporary, wide open, sky lit, technologically smart District Center at 555 12th Street, NW, just down from the White House. The design was inspired by the movement of water in nature, specifically the horizontal force of sediment flow and detailed beauty of geologic bedding. This wall sculpture was designed to feature a soft, but boldening strata of earth, that moves, grows, and transforms by the power of water. The design brief asked for a piece with subtle, textural, dimensional, organic shapes, to move across the wall with visual intrigue, something to create interest with lux finishes and scale. The request was for the art to echo and compliment the interior finishes, without competing or distracting.. The design buzz words were the following : flow, asymmetry, detailed, patterned, soft, growing, ebbing, lux, rich, sophisticated, comfortable.
