These pieces were created with rounds of decorative Thai beehive paper, painted, and dipped in liquid gold, draped over birch wood sticks, and assembled into a geometric grid pattern over glossed canvas. They were inspired by the shape, delicacy, and paper-like quality of butterfly wings. Each fragile round of semi-sheer paper is as unique, distinct, and organic as a butterfly wing. Integrating each into a rigid geometric display grid gives the piece an entomological feel.
Gilded Wing 02 was commissioned for the Four Seasons Hotel, Minneapolis. This piece will reside atop the city’s only five-star hotel in one of a unique collection of 34 Private Residences, opening in early 2022. The interior aesthetic at this Four Seasons is all about luxury, elegance, attention to detail, warm, abundant light, premium materials, fixtures, finishes and appliances, a rich palette of woods, metals, stones and textiles.
